Many municipal highway and public works crews find themselves managing and caring for trees in public ways and places.

Vermont Local Roads Program will hold an Emerald Ash Borer and Tree Planting Workshop at the Bennington Public Works facility in Bennington, VT on October 1st from 8:30 am to 4 pm.

The morning portion of this workshop will discuss the invasive insect, emerald ash borer, and its effect on all species of ash trees, including green ash that often lines streets and parks, and how town crews can prepare to safely remove these trees or plan for their treatment.

The afternoon portion of the workshop will provide complete hands-on training to plant a balled-and-burlapped tree in a public space, covering the tips and tricks to make planting quick and efficient while ensuring long-term tree survivability.

Instructors for this workshop are Adam McCullough, Urban Forester, and Joanne Garton, Technical Assistance Coordinator, of the Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program.
