Fire Management at Camp Edwards Field Trip @ Camp Edwards National Guard Base

The North Atlantic Fire Science Exchange in conjunction with the Massachusetts National Guard Camp Edwards training site are offering a History of Fire Management at Camp Edwards Field Trip at Camp Edwards in Falmouth on January 19th from 7:30 am to 3:30 p.m.

Camp Edwards has 15,000 acres of Army National Guard training lands within the 22,000 acre Joint Base Cape Cod and is home to the largest contiguous pitch pine barren forest outside of the New Jersey Pinelands. The history of wildfire, prescribed fire, and other habitat disturbance has provided for an abundance of early and mid successional habitats supporting a high number of rare species and strong plant and animal diversity.

This field trip will introduce participants to the 25+ year history of fire management, the challenges of management objectives on a military base surrounded by towns, and the successes of management activities within the context of the pine barrens ecosystem.

This field trip is free, but you MUST register in advance. Please bring a lunch; you will NOT have time to buy food once you are on the base.

This field trip is being held on a military base. Because of this, special security measures are required. For SECURITY REASONS, you will be asked to provide on your registration form your full legal name, date of birth, driver license number (include state of issue), and vehicle plate number (include state of issue)/make/model/color of the vehicle that you will be arriving in.
