Forests & Water Quality Workshop

Our woodlands help protect water quality by absorbing rainfall, filtering stormwater runoff, reducing floods, and refilling aquifers while providing habitat for wildlife. With about 180 million people relying on freshwater resources originating in forests, and 74 percent of New York State’s woodlands owned by private landowners, forest best management practices are a topic that really is important to everyone.

Cornell Extension of Greene & Columbia Counties will hold a Forests & Water Quality Workshop on Saturday, August 20th from 10 to 11:30 am at the Agroforestry Research Center at 6055 Route 23 in Acra, NY

The program will look at some best management practices in the Siuslaw Model Forest while we learn about how important woodlands are to clean water. Protecting water quality, soil and wildlife habitat during forest management activities is simple when you employ simple, cost-effective best management practices.

Please dress appropriately for an outdoor, woodland walk. Sturdy shoes, tick protection and water are recommended for this informative interactive event!
