Non-native upland invasive plants pose a serious threat to NH’s natural environment.
UNH Extension will hold an How to Manage Upland Invasive Plants Workshop at the Conservation Center in Concord with a field trip to Boscawen Town Forest on August 19th from 8:30 am to 4 pm.
This training is designed to provide attendees with a foundation on how to conduct effective upland invasive plant management, including an overview of techniques, planning resources, tools available and case studies. Attendees will attend presentations, learn from colleagues, experts and each other, and attend an afternoon field tour of an invasive plant management site.
This training is designed for people with a strong interest and some experience in natural resources stewardship, including foresters, land trust staff, natural resource professionals, municipal staff, private landowners, and active community volunteers.
Event Agenda:
- 8:30 to 9:00 am – Gather and registration.
- 9:00 am – Welcome and introduction of the day.
- 9:10 to 9:30 am – Introduction to Upland Invasive Plants and Weed Ecology in NH.
- 9:30 to 10:00 am – Planning and Assessment.
- 10:00 to 10:30 am – Integrated Pest Management for Invasive Plants.
- 10:30 to 10:45 am – Break.
- 10:45 to 11:45 am – Case Studies for Managing Invasive Plants in NH.
- 11:45 to 12:00 pm – Available Tools and Resources.
- 12:00 to 1:00 pm – BYO Lunch and travel to Field Site.
- 1:00 to 4:00 pm– Field tour of invasive plant management. Boscawen Town Forest.
Note: The Town Forest is at the very end of Weir Road in Boscawen. Weir Road is ONLY accessed from Boscawen off Queen Street. Weir Road continues into Concord but it is impassable from that direction. Directions will be provided from the Conservation Center.
