The American Chestnut Foundation will hold a Historic Importations & Chestnut Cultivars online Chat on Friday, February 19th at 11:30 am EST.

TACF has received a number of requests for a Chestnut Chat presentation about “Dunstan” chestnuts, and/or other named hybrids. For this February Chat, we will be joined by two incredibly experienced chestnut growers and breeders. Sandra Anagnostakis is a retired plant pathologist and chestnut breeder from the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES). Michael Nave is a California-based chestnut grower of dozens of cultivars and varieties, and may have the most diverse collection of chestnut types in the country.

In this program, Sandra will cover the history of chestnut importation and cultivar development. Mike will follow, covering the breeding and selection process of ”big name” cultivars like Paragon, Marrone, Dunstan, and others, which many people encounter when looking for commercially-available chestnut varieties.
