Penn State Extension will hold two one-hour A Multi-scale Approach to Managing Forests for Birds, Wildlife and Sustainability webinars on September 8th at noon and 7 pm.

In these webinars, Ron Rohrbaugh, Director of Conservation Science and Forest Programs with Audubon Pennsylvania, will discuss the unique “power” of birds as barometers of forest health and in driving landscape-scale forest management through their complex breeding cycles and high mobility.

Rohrbaugh will cover the population status of forest birds, the importance of Pennsylvania’s forests in supporting those species, and the forest conditions needed to sustain healthy bird populations. In addition, his presentation will focus on how to use common forest management practices in woodlots and large forest tracts to improve habitat for forest birds, while also meeting goals related to forest products and recreation.
