Franklin Land Trust, Mass Audubon and the Department of Conservation and Recreation will hold a Woods, Warblers and Wildlife tour of newly created bird and wildlife habitat at a privately owned woodland in Conway on May 31st from 10 am to noon.

The woodland is enrolled in the Foresters for The Birds Program, a program that helps landowners achieve their forest management goals while enhancing wildlife habitat at the same time. Participants will learn about why certain birds need our help, how birds and other wildlife benefit from forest management practices, and how to look at recently logged woodlands from a new perspective.

Consulting forester Mary Wigmore will discuss the goals of this project, and timber harvester Brian Gosling will talk about the mechanics of patch opening harvests. Mass Audubon’s Jeff Ritterson will talk about forest birds and what you can do to help them, and DCR service forester Alison Wright-Hunter will talk about how to get involved with Foresters for the Birds.

To register for the tour, call Franklin Land Trust at 413 625-9151.
