Maple Sap Collection Workshops

Maple Sap Collection Workshops

The Yale Forest School will hold two free Maple Sap & Collection Workshops in October for Maple Sugarers.

On Tuesday October 4th there will be a Sap Collection and Processing Workshop on Justamere Tree Farm in Worthington, Mass. from 4 to 6:30 pm.  Justamere Tree Farm is a women-owned maple business that runs on renewable energy.

The structure of the workshop will be in the form of an informal producer-to-producer discussion of sap collection and processing techniques.

Topics will include sap line layout and maintenance, evaporator use and sap processing techniques, different evaporator energy sources (solar vs. wood vs. fossil fuels), as well as Justamere’s production of value-added products like maple cream and sugar.

Justamere Tree Farm is at 248 Patterson Road in Worthington.

On Saturday, October 22nd, there will be a Tubing System Installation and Sap Storage Workshop at the Yale-Meyers Forest in Eastford, CT.

This workshop will introduce both new and experienced sugarmakers to sap collection.

The workshop will focus on how to layout, install, and maintain a proper tubing system in your sugarbush.

Participants will gain experience installing maple mainline and lateral lines, while becoming familiar with multiple types of tools used in the process.
